Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Remote Online Notarization?
Remote Online Notarization (RON) allows a person to appear before a commissioned notary public in real-time using a laptop, tablet or phone. With RON, the process of making an appointment and waiting to meet with an in-person notary is quickly becoming a thing of the past. To learn more about how it works watch our one-minute video:
  • What are the benefits of RON?
One of the benefits of RON is the ability to get your documents notarized without leaving the comfort of your home or office. Eliminating the need for all parties to be in the same room allows the notarization process to be much faster and more efficient since signers do not have to take time traveling to appointments. And since everything is done online there is no need to waste paper printing out the documents.
  • Which documents can be notarized online?
Nearly all documents that can be notarized in the traditional paper world can be notarized online. If you have any questions always check with your own advisors and document recipients.
  • Is RON secure?
Not only is RON more convenient, but online notarization is also more secure. Traditional notaries only compare the person’s appearance to a photo I.D. but remote notaries use a more secure process which results in improved protection from fraud. First a person’s ID is uploaded to verify their identity and then the user will be required to answer a series of knowledge-based questions. Online notarization is also more secure because all sessions are recorded and stored in databases. This can be helpful in the event of a dispute where the transaction needs to be verified.
  • How long does the process take?
A typical session takes an average of only 10- 15 minutes.
  • What form of ID do I need?
We accept passports, driver’s licenses and government issued photo ID’s.
  • Do I have to be in the same state as the notary?
Not at all! As long as the notary is in the state they are commissioned they can notarize documents for signers that are in any state, any country, essentially anywhere in the world!
